Slavery in 2013

Our planet as it really is

Yes, there is slavery in America as well as in most other countries in the world. Why would people buy and sell other human beings? Greed, profit, gender discrimination, cheap labor force are some of the reasons.

In some parts of our country and other countries, a girl is more likely to be raped than to learn how to read. Every year, 60 million girls are sexually assaulted at or on their way to school. There is an estimated 800,000 people trafficked across national borders annually. Eighty per cent are girls and women.

Here in America, on any day in any month,  someone may be sold into slavery.  100,000 to 300,000 people are trafficked annually. 83 % are being sold for sexual work. It is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world.

Worldwide, most trafficked persons are Asians. Up to 800,000 people, men, women, boys and girls are Trafficked across international borders. They account for up to 32 billion dollars in revenue. Most trafficking has to do with labor, including sexual labor, and children being sold to armies as soldiers. Can you imagine knowing that every day for the rest of your life, you will work for someone who oppresses human beings? You will never see a penny of the fruits of your labor, and they can do with you whatever they wish, including raping  you or sending you to kill or die in a battle you will never live long enough to understand.

Ms. Barbara hits this one out of the entire ball park. Thank you Ms. Barbara.

    • Thank you so much. I am studying up on the issue and it is scary. It makes DV look gentle. So the only way I know of to educate people and encourage them to really look at the situation and stand up and speak out. When millions are screaming about slavery, we will be able to stop them and jail them.

So hard to read but so necessary to know. Truly evil.

    • Hard to read, hard to study. Easy to look away at something more beautiful. And we need to do that often to relieve our souls and to strengthen our resolve to make a difference, to care. But we can’t ignore the ugly truth.

This is so full of truth it hurts. Will reblog. Thank you for continuing to bring this stuff to our attention because it will not go away on its own.

This is hard to read but I know it is true. Please read. Humanity needs to wake up to what is going on all around us. Brenda

This is painfully sad. I can’t begin to imagine :(

    • I can’t really imagine what happens, yet because of my work in DV I need only close my eyes and I see hundreds of battered women. So much easier to buy and torture someone you don’t know. Hugs, Barbara

  6. This battle of Slavery so needs to be addressed and People need to open their eyes to the world as our nations are far from squeaky clean .. An excellent post bringing awareness of this horrendous practice which affects so so many who once in the trap can not get out..
Sending you love and Blessings ~Sue xx

This is such a thought provoking post. I read this earlier this week. http://newint.org/features/2013/04/01/should-prostitution-be-legalized-argument/ This is a current debate in South Africa where we have some of the highest rape figures in the world!

this is he painful sad truth of the society we now find ourselves in. what do we do? how do we make this a better place for our children? I don’t wanna lie, I’m scared of everything around me, cause I’m not sure what statistic I could be part of at the end of the day.

    • It is a scary world but you must focus on the love in your life. Know that divinity lives within and use common sense. If a situation feels hanky, it is probably the time to exit. Thank you for your support and comments.
